Southerly summary - January 2024

January was my last birthday month before becoming mama. What a special year it’s been!

We kicked off the new year in Healdsburg with friends. And even though I fell sick afterwards (back to back colds), it was such a fun time to share in the joy of our new addition with close friends.

The bump made a full appearance this past month and baby continues to grow healthily which I am so grateful for. Finding outfits that I feel comfortable in my changing body has been a bit of a struggle recently, but I found some great basics that I can wear now and into the future, and next month I am trying out Nuuly at a friends’s suggestion. Otherwise, I’m thankful to still be feeling pretty awesome during my pregnancy where I can continue my walks with Roman and working out. I’ve also been experimenting with a grain-free diet to alleviate some of my gut issues and so far, it seems to be working. That is when I can stick to it! I resonated so much with Camille Style’s post on this (love her blog) and figured I’d give it a try as cutting gluten didn’t seem to enough. I’ve also been trying out recipes from Danielle Walker and Paleo Running Momma. It certainly helps having a kitchen back!

Speaking of….on the house front. We finalized our master closets with California Closets, and I’m look forward to organizing and unpacking soon - hopefully in time for some true nesting! The new roof is on and there’s been major progress towards completion upstairs.

We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and so excited for the life we’re building. Family dinners at the table again, enjoying morning coffee (unrushed!) in the backyard come spring, reading to the babe in my new love seat by the window in our bedroom… and hopefully reigniting my creative spark (and gaining some mental energy back). It is a lot of change, but also a lot to look forward to!

This month has been a rainy one, so in between the gray I’ve made several trips to the coast to reset. I had a special birthday dinner at home and a fun outing with my husband to Sausalito. It was a full month! February will be working towards the renovation completion (it must come to an end soon!), new ventures on the creative front, and some much needed travel to see family. I am still finding a cadence with my writing and showing up creatively but love these little life updates and hope you do, too.
