Southerly summary - February 2023
I always look back on the photos I captured when writing these summaries. At first when sitting down on this dreary day, I thought February seemed a bit of a wash (pun intended). But, then as I reflect on my photos and journal I start to relive the moments - even the small ones.
Like getting back into the barre studio was a big one for me! I hadn’t been since covid (was taking virtually). And I have to say, it really helps me feel better to be connected in that way. Working from home can be lonely so just getting out for that hour is a welcome treat! Not to mention good both mentally and physically. I always wished I had pursued a dancing career (ha!) so barre has been a long love of mine for nearly a decade.
Progress has been made on the house, though not as much as I would like (seems to be the story). The windows have been replaced on our front facade but the stucco and dry wall still needs to be repaired, and there is more finish work before the vision really comes to life. So far though, the windows have been a huge improvement. I feel like I need to do a whole write-up on those alone because it was/still is such a saga. Renovating an older home is not for the faint of heart... or impatient (I’m working on it!). We also met with a cabinet maker through our contractor who we really liked! Getting bids now on kitchen cabinetry and future areas of the house.
A highlight of the month was getting out to the coast for a few rare sunny days. I had lunch with my lovely aunt one day, and it was so nice to reconnect and get some good family time in. She has been and still is such a positive influence on my life!
We also took a day trip over the long weekend. Got our toes sandy, watched the dog lay in the ocean, threw the football and ate crab. Pretty epic day and a reminder that you can always find the light with a little effort.
And as I’ve been looking forward to some upcoming travel, I also did a little spring shopping. I rounded up some current favorites in this post and will likely add to it as we get into the season. I hope you find it helpful. I’ve been on the hunt for more elevated pieces that are moderate investments but high quality. I just purchased my first DeMillier crossbody (haven’t shared yet!) and I love it.
As for the blog, I have been getting back into Pinterest for both inspiration and creating. And I’m hoping to branch out more into partnerships or affiliate programs this year as I build this small business. Even the few folks that read here or say I’ve inspired them make it all worth it!
Looking ahead to March, I’ve got gardening on my mind (though in reality the yard is still covered with construction materials in many areas). I can’t wait to make some potted plants happen, but we have two large veggie beds to fill in too! I’ve also got an upcoming girls trip and a weekend trip for my husband’s work. Overall, looking forward to a break in the rain and some more sunny days.
Happy weekend!
