Girls weekend in Santa Monica

I recently got back from my first spring trip - a girls weekend with my mom and sister-in-law in SoCal. While I was hoping for warmer weather, we got the tail end of a crazy winter storm (apparently it snowed in LA!). It was a bit chilly, but we at least had clear skies. The weekend consisted mostly of relaxing, moving our bodies, a little shopping of course, and good food (always!).

We stayed at the beautiful Santa Monica Proper Hotel. I was excited to stay here because of my architecture background and love of aesthetics…and it did not disappoint! The lobby and Palma lounge were inviting with a cool, California beachy vibe. We had dinner there the first night and got a bunch of dishes to split. We also loved their rooftop restaurant and bar, Calabra. It is filled with lush plants and a beautiful view! Not to mention during the day, hanging out at the pool area was so relaxing.

I found a few fun pieces for the trip that I wanted to share since they’re all versatile and great to take you through late winter to spring. Hopefully the sunshine will be back soon!

I typically travel in leggings these days. My go to will always be the Align. I wore them with a simple white tee and sneakers since I knew I’d rewear my sneakers for most of the trip.

One of of my favorite pieces I found was this beautiful, light quilted jacket by Cuyana. I went in looking for a bag but ended up purchasing this. I love the shorter style making it easy to pair with tees or dresses, and I find the black with a bit of metal detailing really elevates the look. It’s casual and cute - always my go-to with style finds! This is such a great jacket for traveling since you can wear it a number of ways and its not too bulky.

I wore one of my capsule looks for the first day of the trip. Denim paired with my Free People cardigan and sneakers. At night I just threw on my jacket and DeMellier crossbody to elevate the whole look. This is my first DeMellier bag and I’m really pleased with it. It’s versatile (my number one rule with new purchases), spacious, and I love the stitch detail (I opted for this for a more casual vibe)! It is also a great travel piece because you can dress it up or down and the crossbody is a classic style - probably my favorite for bags because I like to be hands-free.

The next day we did a short workout at the fitness center to kick start our morning. My husband has always been good about getting us to move during vacations and I always feel so much better! So I rallied the girls since we were headed to brunch afterwards. You can rewear your travel leggings or throw in another pair as they are easy to pack. I ended up working out in my converse, which are surprisingly very comfortable so another great travel item.

Outside of dining at the hotel, we had brunch at Elephante. The view was amazing overlooking the Pacific and the food was delicious and fresh. I had been looking for a classic striped sweater for some time and loved this one by Kule from the moment I tried it on. It’s so soft and cozy and the blue is perfect for spring. This made for an effortless all-day look. We also had dinner one night at Mercado, a fabulous Mexican restaurant. The food was nontraditional and the margaritas were excellent! Thanks to my gal @omgiamobsessed for her local recs.

With all of our eating out, we were thrilled the hotel offered complimentary yoga! We took a Vinyasa class outdoors, and it felt so nice to move and get some fresh air in the process. In true LA style, I wore a white matching set by Alo. Great mix and match pieces with things already in my fitness line-up. We also got my mom her first pair of Beyond Yoga - another favorite of mine.

We braved the chillier weather for a little sun on the rooftop of the hotel in the afternoons. The pool area was too cute not to! I wore this fun one-piece I picked up at Nordstrom a while back with my jeans and new favorite hoodie overtop. Yep, a hoodie at the pool. But I absolutely love this one since it’s a quarter zip (I have both XS/S and M/L for different fits). It is probably my most worn item at the moment and works great for both athleisure or a casual look with jeans. Paired with my favorite Janessa Leone sunhat and you’ve (almost) got spring break vibes.

Hope this gives you inspiration for some thoughtful spring shopping and packing for your next trip. These items are also linked in my spring style guide along with other fun finds in case you missed it.
