March moments and welcoming spring
It seems that we’ve all been itching for spring more than usual. Perhaps it’s because we’re yet again facing unthinkable challenges in the world today and the thought of sunshine simply cheers us up. Spring is a happy season (once you get through the allergies!) with longer days calling us to get outside and new blooms reminding us of fresh starts. Spring is full of color, excitement and anticipation.
As we gear up for this season, I find that I’m wanting to soak up time outdoors. And I’m especially excited for our landscape project to progress! I’ve always dreamed of having a garden, though I’m still working on my green thumb. There is something meditative about planning and potting fresh food and plants. The process of watching new things grow and harvesting for use is nourishing for the soul. Right now, we’re planning for several raised beds in the garden but I haven’t yet determined what I’ll plant. Something to look forward to!
While the yard is still under construction, I’ve been enjoying the quiet afternoons when the workers go home for the day, and I can go explore. Just the other day I noticed that we have our very own Forsythia branches! You can see how I styled them here. The azaleas and rose bushes are blooming, and our Meyer lemon tree is still going crazy. Lately, I’ve been juicing them for a simple vinaigrette salad dressing and using the whole fruit as a centerpiece on our dining table (which I’m currently shopping for a replacement!). I also can’t wait to enjoy my Lemon La Croix Fizzie again as we gear up for more outdoor entertaining.
Some of my favorite things to do for spring are foraging in the yard, visiting parks to see wildflower blooms, and weekend walks to our local farmer’s market. We have much to be grateful for and even more to look forward to in this new season. I hope spring is blossoming wherever you are and you can find time to take note of all the beautiful changes.
