What to pack for a trip to Mexico

We recently returned from our second trip to Mexico in the last month. It’s been a whirlwind, but they’ve both been memorable!

On this most recent trip, we visited Punta Mita for a family birthday celebration. I cannot take credit for the planning (thank you to my future brother-in-law’s wife!), but I wanted to share some tips as well as what I brought if you have any upcoming trips of your own. And I hope you do!

For starters, we stayed at a villa near the Four Seasons and St. Regis resorts. There is a gated community that surrounds the resorts which include access to golf and tennis courses, amazing beach clubs, and the villas. Make sure you check with where you’re staying what you have access to. Our villa was beautiful, but the beach clubs offered larger pools, spas, beach access, and food and beverage service. It was luxury! One other tip is to check if the villas are listed directly on VRBO (or similar) as we were able to secure a better rate this way.

As for packing, for the last two trips, my fiance and I have been sharing a single checked bag. It makes for easier transport and has forced me get a little more savvy while packing. I shared another packing post previously, but I wanted to highlight some recent outfits that would be perfect for upcoming vacations.

For trips like these, I feel comfortable bringing out the fun patterns! I found this Free People dress several years ago for my first trip to Hawaii, and I’ve brought it on every tropical vacation since! An airy sundress is perfect for the heat and can be dressed up or down, depending on your itinerary. For a more subtle pop, I love black with a fun print.

If you do have an event, like we did in San Miguel, this dress I featured on Instagram is perfect for the occasion! It’s affordable, lightweight (packable), and so flattering. I paired it with wedges for ease walking on the cobblestone streets in San Miguel. Add a cute clutch, and you’re wedding guest ready!

I’ve been on the hunt for a matching set for a while and this one from Revolve was worth the wait! I love the bright blue color, and the ruffles are flattering and fun. The top is light and breezy, too so its great for that warm weather destination. I’ll be wearing this on repeat for summer!

I always try to pack items that can be reworn, even for a quick trip, so I invested in these pretty flowy pants that can be dressed up or down. I wore them on the plane on the way out paired with a cropped tank and jean jacket. Then for dinner at the house one night, I paired them with this purple bodysuit from Amazon. They run a bit big and are also a tad see-through so just be mindful. I also picked up a cute t-shirt dress a few weeks ago at Nordstrom and so glad I did. I wore it for some last minute shopping and its comfy enough to travel in so I threw on my jean jacket and off we went to the airport. This will be a staple in my closet for the warmer weather months as I love an easy throw on and go outfit! You can pair with a light jacket and sneakers for travel or sandals for a pool day.

Of course, don’t forget your cute cover up, swimwear, and loungewear for hanging around the villa or resort! All of these pieces are great for transitioning into the season. Here’s to your next vacation!
