Wedding details

It has been so fun reminiscing on our wedding day. We have all of our photos and just finalized our wedding video (something I’m so happy we did!).

Now that the chaos is over, I’ve been taking time to document it all. At times it feels strange to publish such an intimate event - but I remind myself that this site is primarily for me - it fuels my creativity and I hope it brings a sense of community one day (beyond social). For any readers who may be getting married or if you love details, then I hope you enjoy this post too!

So much planning goes into a wedding…even the small ones.

After we found the perfect venue, it helped to solidify my vision, which I talked about here.

But there were so many things I hadn’t really thought about. I was not one of those girls who dreamt about wedding details from a young age. But I am a romantic and coming from marketing and events, I was excited about designing this special moment.

The dress was likely the hardest part for me. I wrote about my dress shopping experience and what I found helpful here.

Beyond that, the best decision we made was to hire wedding planners. We worked with Imagine This Events. Even though they were local to CA, they helped us navigate coordinating details in Jackson and staying on top of vendors/contracts. They also helped ensure everything was set up and ran smoothly on our wedding day so we didn’t have to worry - and that was worth every penny! I can’t thank them enough for all they did.

And a massive thank you to the rest of our wedding vendors (especially our photographer for capturing these beautiful memories), all of whom made it the dreamiest day!

Wedding invites & logistics

We used Minted to create a wedding site to house all of our information and details for guests. This was immensely helpful considering it was a destination wedding. We used it for all updates and communication since we had a smaller group and highly recommend!

Much of our decor and our invitation envelopes came from Etsy (love supporting other small businesses!). I bought leather table numbers, these envelopes, this beautiful leather guest book and leather vow books. My dear friend actually helped me design and print our save the dates and invites which was such a special thing!

Wedding design & reception

I didn’t have a main color but instead kept a neutral palette to compliment our beautiful setting. Lots of cream, white, green, leather, and wood! My florals were mostly white and blush with greenery for a boho/freshly-picked feel. And our florist made our gorgeous arch/arbor that fit the scene perfectly!

We served a signature drink at the reception - the huckleberry mule - using a locally made huckleberry vodka. We also included several local features on our menu including grilled elk tenderloin for our dinner entree, which ended up being a crowd pleaser! I love local touches anytime but it was especially fun for a destination wedding.

A non-negotiable for me was having a live band. We interviewed several but were so thrilled to find Jagertown who fit our vibe perfectly. They weren’t your typical wedding band at all, and we loved that about them. They played a mix of classic rock and new country and we had an absolute blast, including an appearance on stage!

Wedding songs

  • Aisle: “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, acoustic

  • First dance: “Can’t take my eyes off you” by Lady A

  • Dad+daughter dance: “It won’t be like this for long” by Darius Rucker

As much as I wanted to offer welcome gifts or other items for guests, we instead focused on providing transportation for them (to and from the welcome event, to and from the wedding) and splurging on a fabulous plated dinner. The band was also a big splurge but it fit our venue and helped elevate our western-themed party.

At the end of the day, it’s the experience and celebrating you that people remember! So that’s what we cherished the most in an incredible setting.
