Southerly summary - May 2023
May is one of my favorite months to visit a nearby garden and historic site. Things change from year to year and month to month, but no matter what is blooming it’s sure to be magical. I often visit when I’m in need of inspiration.
Things are still blooming in our yard as well. We have much to do and are still working with our landscapers on our final punch list (crazy, I know). But some good news is that our new bar stools arrived ahead of schedule, and we’ve been enjoying the outdoor living area as much as possible.
We had several celebrations this month. May is becoming synonymous with Lobster Fest. You may have seen my update about it - it’s one of our favorite events of the season! We also celebrated my stepson's birthday.
I took the last week of May “off” to reset a bit. I was working behind the scenes on trying to clean up my systems and on writing in general. I also needed time to focus on our house project (there are questions everyday!) and my family. We also took our dog in for routine dental work and it went horribly. He is OK! But it was a very traumatic experience for all.
I rounded out the month with a much needed mini getaway to Lake Tahoe. It was nice being up there before the summer craziness, though summer is my favorite time to visit. Having grown up near a lake and visiting one every summer, lakelife has always been a part of my summertime nostalgia. This trip was more of a summertime soul searching, and I find I’m doing more and more of that these days.
As part of that exploration, I’ve also been writing more poetry. It’s been surprisingly therapeutic and fun for me. I’m excited to see where this direction leads and hoping it continues to spark creativity.
Looking ahead to summer, there will be more lake (and pool!) time, progress on our house, baseball, memories with friends and family, and maybe even a late summer trip somewhere special (I’m trying to will it to be with my summer mood boards!).
To a boundless summer.
