Inspired by: Charming container gardens

I love the idea of a Sunday reset. I try to find time to do something for myself on this day of the week in particular. It’s usually something small, maybe a walk someplace new, reading.

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful, clear day, so I grabbed a blanket and headed to a cozy spot in the yard to soak up some Vitamin D. My dog joined me, sharing in a simple, quiet moment at home and it filled me up. I live for those times of awe in daily life.

While daydreaming in the yard, I got excited thinking about spending more time in our newly designed yard. We’re so close to the decorating stage (which is maybe my favorite part!).

I’ve slowly been acquiring furniture, but what I’m really looking forward to are the accents that make it feel inviting. I’ve always been inspired by the beautiful and organic feel of European and Mexican gardens. Potted plants and container gardens add depth and charm - a layer that makes it feel lived in like a cozy blanket or throw pillows.

I love taking snapshots of gardens and outdoor scenes during travels, and they continue to be sources of ideas for our home. This time last year, we were in San Miguel de Allende and the gardens were unreal.

When we redid the yard, we wanted a simple backdrop so the plants would pop. We saved most of the existing planting along the fence and supplemented it. But in the process of adding grass around the pool and dealing with some leveling issues, we lost quite a few beautiful rose bushes. Since our patio is concrete pavers, I’m dying to get some beautiful pots with additional flowers and vines to soften up the outdoor living spaces.

There are endless possibilities for potted plants! I love container gardens on the front porch, spilling with green and soft, whimsical flowers. I potted geranium several years ago because it reminded me of Italy and was pleasantly surprised it didn’t need a lot of maintenance. For the backyard, you can get creative with trellises for creeping vines. Potted roses are one of my favorite looks as well giving French, country cottage vibes. And citrus is another great option that not only looks great, but is practical too! I’ve been thinking about adding a potted lime tree to compliment our Meyer lemons.

Sharing a few of my favorite outdoor moments from our travels as well as other inspiration in preparation for spring.
