Classic hot toddy cocktail
We’re heading to visit family in Colorado soon and looking forward to some snow adventures. It will be hard to leave the beautiful weather we’ve had in CA so in order to warm up, I’m planning on making this classic cocktail while at the cabin.
The perfect winter bevvy and après ski, I’ve learned this drink has several names including the hot toddy and rockin’ rye. They’re also known to help reduce cold symptoms (just be responsible!).
By now you should know that most of my “recipes” are more like guidelines. Taste is so subjective, especially in drinks, so the secret to a great toddy is simple—just play around with the amount of lemon juice and honey until you like the flavor. I’ve also had them with rum for an added kick.
Regardless of what you call it, it's a great drink to have in your rotation as we round out winter.
Recipe
For 2 servings:
1 ½ cup hot water
~3 ounce whiskey
4-6 tsp. honey, to taste
4-6 tsp. lemon juice, to taste
Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
2 cinnamon sticks (optional, for garnish)
Combine all ingredients in a mug, stir well and test taste. Sending warmth and good vibes. Cheers, friends!
